Using virtues to help develop character

Inside each and every person there are hidden many precious gems waiting to be discovered. These gems can be recognized as virtues, such as love, kindness, courage, and respect. When they reveal themselves in someone, beauty radiates all around.

It seems no matter what religion or culture one is from virtues are there. In fact, they are universal. They can be seen at the foundation of every major religion, myth, legend and folklore around the world. Through myth and legend, the great heroes have stood as pillars of virtue, inspiring and encouraging the development of character in all who read about them. They demonstrate that a life of character generates a happy and fulfilling life!

Imagine , for a moment, the human body as the earth. Virtues can be considered as seedlings to be cultivated in order to grow and flourish. Like growing seedlings, the cultivation of character requires a nurturing environment.

This is exactly what is being created at KidzQuest with the Golden Knights program. Over the 9 week term a nurturing and supportive environment will be created to allow the children to feel safe to be themselves. During this period seeds of virtues will be planted so that in time great character will blossom.
You, as parents, are vitally important in the cultivation of these qualities in your children. KidzQuest endeavours to work in partnership with you and your child’s teachers to nurture your child’s positive development.

Every week in the Golden Knights program a new virtue is focused on through various stories of heroes and great leaders. In order to consolidate these qualities in your child, checklist can be downloaded with a list of virtues. Each time you recognize the particular virtues indicated, place a tick next to it.
Furthermore, parent workshops called “Using Virtues at Home” are offered regularly to help align KidzQuest and parents. In this way, your child will be given the best possible environment to grow and develop in.
